Solisto was produced at the Kagoshima Kawauchi Plant, Unit 4 (1960). It was planned by a publishing sales representative. At that time, ground pulp (GP, crushed wood pulp) was used for bulky book paper so that the paper would be thick even at low basis weight and not lose its backing, but ground pulp contained a lot of lignin, which caused the paper to fade when stored for a long time. With the cooperation of the Kawauchi Mill and publishers, we repeated trial runs of this paper, and in 2002, we developed a bulky book paper that does not fade. We named this paper “Solisto. The name reflects our wish that publishers would become soloists and express (perform) freely. Today, the Soloist series is available in four different colors so that the user can choose a color that matches the image of the book. In an ink writing test conducted by Yamamoto Shigyo, even low viscosity ink stayed firmly in the paper without bleeding, and there was no back-stripping. The rough paper surface is very comfortable, the paper absorbs ink well, and ink colors are expressed in darker colors.
